EMPLOYMENT ISSUE: 1,000 LA Workers to be Laid Off

Los Angeles – Around a thousand city employees will be laid off as ordered by Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in order to aid the growing budget deficit which now stands at $208 million.

The drastic cuts are said to be help in strengthening the city’s fiscal health and credit ratings and will also prevent further layoffs as senior city staffers can fill some of the vacated positions.

The mayor’s orders came a day after the city council voted to think of better solutions and delay decisions regarding job cuts for at least 30 days.
