24 People Stuck in Rollercoaster Ride

August 11, 2009

Santa Clara, California - Twenty-four people were stuck for hours in a rollercoaster ride that stopped approximately 80 feet high from the ground due to mechanical failure on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

In an interview, Santa Clara Deputy Fire Chief Augie Wiedemann said the rollercoaster ride in the Great America Theme Park stopped around 12.15 pm as it was ascending at the highest point.

According to reports, the passengers in “Invertigo” rollercoaster ride were stuck for at least three hours.

Firefighters immediately arrived at the scene to remove the passengers from their restraints. Rescuers used the fire truck’s ladder with compartment on top to lower the stuck passengers.

While some riders were slightly dehydrated, no one was injured.

The theme park’s management was unable to give comments.
