Employment: 43 MoCo employees to receive preliminary layoff notices
May 4, 2010
Salinas – At least 43 employees are set to receive preliminary layoff notices from the Monterey County Board of Supervisors in the coming days.
Beginning next week, layoff notices will be sent to the employees, informing them that they could be laid off by June 30 to solve the county’s 21 million dollar deficit.
According to supervisor Dave Potter, layoffs can be prevented by being more “creative”. Transferring employees to other job positions and looking at other cost-cutting procedures are some of the ways he suggested.
However, County administrator Lou Bauman clarified that the approved pink slips are not layoffs per se, but only notices.
County department heads will continue to find other cost-cutting measures, as well as job openings for employees.
