African American Wins Lawsuit against Choctaw for Racial Discrimination
January 20, 2012Memphis – The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) granted an African-American job applicant $75,000 as settlement on a racial discrimination lawsuit, which was filed by the government arm against the Choctaw Transportation Company, Inc., reports said.
According to EEOC’s press release, the company refused to hire the complainant because of his race and color.
Choctaw had long been known for segregating its laborers and refusing to accept blacks for the deckhand.
The erring company is situated at Dyersburg Tennessee and specializes in marine construction as well as transportation.
The EEOC has found out that the aforementioned company violated the record keeping provisions under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) through failing to keep the personnel and medical records.
