TRAIN ACCIDENT: Angels Flight Reopens after Installation of New Wheels
July 5, 2011
Los Angeles- The Angels Flight Railway has been reopened on Tuesday after the California Public Utilities Commission affirmed the safety of newly installed steel wheels on the rail cars.
According to reports, the Safety Inspectors found the new wheel flange on Sinai and Olivet rail cars as safe. The local officials released their permission for Angels Flight to resume operations on Tuesday.
Angels Flight administration received a suspension order a month ago due to a quarter inch deterioration on the rail cars' flanges. Its crew had to spend three weeks in replacing the custom-made parts, reports said.
The historic railway runs up and down the Bunker Hill. It underwent repair in May 2011 and an overhaul in March 2010.
