CPSC Expands Electra Bicycle Recall
October. 15, 2009
Vista, California - The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) included 6,400 additional Electra Bicycles 2009 model over its defective front tray or basket which may detach and fall on the front tire, posing fall hazard to consumers.
In March, the consumer agency announced its first recall that covers 3,000 units.
The CPSC said the bicycle company received 15 cases of trays and baskets detaching and falling on the front tire, including two incidents where passengers sustained minor injuries.
In a statement, Electra Bicycle said the recalled models include Delivery 8D, Holiday 3i, Delivery 3i, Surf 3i, and Holiday 8i bicycles. All of the affected models have trays which were part of original equipment and wicker baskets which were sold separately.
Meanwhile, the consumer agency warns people from using the recalled bicycles which were manufactured in Taiwan and distributed by Electra Bicycle dealers from October 2008 to August 2009.
CPSC officials told consumers to contact the company’s local dealers for free inspection, repair for the defective trays, or refund for baskets which were sold as aftermarket items.
