CPSC Recalls Robes Easily Catch by Fire

June 12, 2009

After six people died for wearing full-length robes which can easily catch fire, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a second recall of Blair LLC robes made of chenille fabric.

According to reports, there are about 162,000 robes yet to be recalled to prevent fatal burn accidents which have already killed five women and a man. Meanwhile, one woman survived but sustained second-degree burns all over her body.

In April, the CPSC and the clothing company had initially announced a recall following the death of several people.

The CPSC said the chenille fabric can easily catch fire that it spreads quickly to the entire robe even before the victims can remove this from their body. Most victims sustained second- to third-degree burns after their robes were caught by fire while they were cooking.

The department said people should not wear the Blair robes with item numbers, 3093112, 3093113, 3093114, 3093115, and 3093116 which can be found on the neckline.

According to Blair, the robes, priced at $20 to $40, were made from Pakistan.
