Community Commemorates Tragic Boy's Death on Interstate 280
July 23, 2009
Sunnyvale, California - Friends and family commemorated the death of a 15-year-old boy who was crushed by a gravel truck after climbing to its tow bar that connects the front to rear trailer in July 10.
In a makeshift memorial on Wolfe Road, the community paid tribute to Jahvier Loyola Leon by offering flowers and prayers on Wednesday morning.
According to police report, the boy climbed onto the truck while it was stopped at a red light on the east lane of Wolfe Road. The driver then picked up the speed that caused Leon to lose balance and fell off the tow bar and landed on the rear truck’s tire which instantly killed him.
In an interview, the California Highway Patrol officials said it is possible that the driver was unaware that there was a boy on his trailer or that the truck crushed him.
Meanwhile, authorities are looking for the white gravel truck and its driver.
