Computer Re-Programming Can Delay Jobless Extension Checks

November 25, 2009

Sacramento - Workers whose benefits have ran-out may not be advised on time of their eligibility to the unemployment extension checks approved last November 8 because of the reprogramming of computers in the California Employment Development Department.

The extensions should provide jobless workers with supplemental income for another 14 weeks in California.

According to EDD, the reprogramming is almost finished and that they have sent around 100,000 letters to those whose 79-week benefits have ran out to advise them to wait for further updates regarding their eligibility for extensions.

Sending out of jobless extension checks will start in early December.
