Vehicle Crash: DUI Marine Arrested for Fatal Crash

Reseda – A 22-year-old Marine who is driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested after causing a fatal crash in Reseda early Sunday morning, authorities said.

Fresno man Richard Buitron was reportedly speeding east in his jeep Cherokee along Strathern Street at about 2 am when he rear-ended a Prius killing a woman and seriously injuring her 5-year-old grandson.

Chandrika DeSilva reportedly got out the vehicle to get her grandson who was at the backseat when the accident occurred. The crash pinned DeSilva as the Prius hit a light pole.

Reports indicate that DeSilva, her husband, and grandson where coming home after having dinner when Buitron crashed into their Prius. DeSilva’s husband was said to be opening the gate to the driveway when the accident occurred.

DeSilva died at the scene while her grandson is recovering in an intensive care unit from the concussion he sustained in the crash.
