VEHICLE CRASH: Driver dies after crashing onto a light pole in Harbor City

Los Angeles – A motorist died after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a light pole around Harbor City Sunday morning, authorities said.

The accident reportedly occurred on Sepulveda Boulevard and Lockness Avenue around 4:30 a.m., Los Angeles police Sgt. Cy Feliciano of the South Traffic Division said.

The male motorist was driving his 1996 Acura at a high speed rate on the westbound lane of Sepulveda when the accident happened. He crossed the eastbound lanes, and then struck a light and electric pole.

Sgt. Feliciano said the driver, who is believed to be between 25 to 35 years of age, died from impact. His body had to be pried out by firefighters.

Investigators believed that the driver fell asleep behind the wheel. “He was driving at a high rate of speed and there were no skid marks, no indication he tried to brake,” Feliciano added. He remains unnamed pending notification of next of kin.
