PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT: Elderly woman Killed in hit-and-run on PCH

March 16, 2010

Malibu - A 73-year-old Filipina was fatally hit by a Honda Accord car while crossing the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), along with her sister, who suffered minor injuries.

The pedestrian was identified as Amelia Ordona, a caregiver, who was found dead on the spot. Her sister was identified as Amparo Pabalan, 67 years old.

Ordona was on route to Paradise Cover, and was crossing the PCH when driver Jay McNamara, 48 years old of Long Angeles, hit her. Ordona was flung into the other lane due to the impact and was successively hit by six other cars. Two cars stopped but the rest kept travelling southbound.

Lt. Scott Chew of Malibu Station said there will be no arrest as of the moment.

“McNamara did not see the two women he hit until it was too late because of their dark clothing, poor lighting, and roadway conditions. The person who initially hit her stopped. The feeling is that after the driver hit her and she was launched into lanes going the opposite direction, a couple of those people stopped. And it's somewhat debatable that the others who went on understood what was going on," he added.

The family members of the victims expressed their fury for not arresting the offenders.

Pabalan said it was their first attempt to cross Winding Way, PCH. The sisters had just finished their caregiver duties at a residence near Winding Way, and were heading to their apartment at Westlake, Los Angeles.

PCH resumed its operations at noon.
