EMPLOYMENT LAW: Jay Medicar Settles Sexual Harassment Suit

October 7, 2011

Chicago- A patient transportation company has agreed to pay $70,000 as settlement for a sexual harassment lawsuit, according to US Equal Employment Opportunity (EEOC) reports on Thursday.

According to EEOC reports, Jay Medicar Transportation, LLC has assented to pay $25,000 each to five female employees who were victims of sexual harassment.

As stated in the lawsuit, a director of operations has harassed at least five female workers. The manager requested sexual favors in exchange for salary increase, work hours adjustment, and security of employment. At least one of the victims was fired for refusing the sexual advances. When she filed a complaint on the termination, the manager rehired her; but subjected her to unfair treatment.

The female victims reported the misconduct to EEOC. The federal agency filed the sexual harassment lawsuit in US District Court in Chicago after initiating a conciliation process, reports said.

Reports said Jay Medicar agreed to pay $70,000 as monetary relief to the aggrieved employees. The EEOC reiterated that the employer has liability in failing to correct the sexually hostile workplace. Jay Medicar assented to provide trainings to its managers and comply with the agency’s discrimination regulations.
