LG Files Patent Infringement Suit against Whirlpool
October 12, 2009
New Jersey - LG Electronics Inc. on Monday has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against appliance manufacturer Whirlpool for allegedly violating its patent design used in refrigerators.
LG, which filed its patent case before the US District Court of New Jersey, accused Whirlpool for infringing its ice storage system found in its refrigerators.
The South Korean-based company is also seeking undisclosed monetary damages caused by the alleged infringement.
In a statement, LG Chief Executive Young-Ha Lee said the company will “enforce its patent rights against other firms that are violating its exclusive technologies and designs.”
For years, the two companies were embroiled in several patent disputes. According to previous reports, Whirlpool also charged LG for infringing its ice bins found in refrigerator doors.
However, the US International Trade Commission ruled in favor of LG and dismissed Whirlpool’s allegation.
