Employment Law: Laid-off JP Morgan Chase Janitors Plan Protest, Traffic Gridlock Expected
August 26, 2010
Los Angeles - Laid-off JP Morgan Chase janitors and hundreds of their supporters are set to stage a protest rally outside the company-owned Century Plaza and is expected to cause heavy traffic in Century City, reports said.
According to organizers, the protest will start at around 1 pm along the Corner of Constellation Boulevard and Avenue of the Starts. It is expected to cause civil disturbance because janitors with banners and picket signs could block the streets.
The laid-off janitors will be joined by airport workers, security officers, and fellow janitors.
Reports said at least 16 janitors who were working for a custodial contractor were laid off from their cleaning jobs at the 2000 Avenue of the Stars and Century Plaza Tower two weeks ago. About 57 janitors reportedly walked off their job at the Century Plaza as a sign of support for the laid off janitors.
Authorities said they will enforce street closures in Century City throughout the late afternoon due to the protest.
