EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION: NYC jury says Novartis discriminated against its female employees
May 17, 2010
New York – According to a jury, drug company Novartis AG committed a series of discriminative actions against women, paying them less than male workers and considering pregnant employees unfairly.
The decision was taken to Manhattan federal court, Monday.
The compromised employees were awarded several million dollars as compensatory damages. The jury says punitive damages can also be awarded, but it has not yet given an exact amount.
The discrimination complaint went to court after Novartis allegedly discriminated against its female workers since 2002. It said women were paid less than men, received few promotions, and experienced a hostile working environment because of the domination of an old boys group.
Both parties are yet to release their statement.
