CAR ACCIDENT: Teen killed in San Jose car pursuit

July 14, 2010

San Jose - A 15-year-old girl suffered fatal injuries Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle she was riding in was struck by a car chased by the California Highway Patrol, the report said.

The pursuit began at about 4 p.m. when Bernardino Cuevas, 24, refused to stop after making an illegal turn.

Cuevas tried to run away from the CHP as he ran a red light a few kilometers away, hitting a Mitsubishi Mirage carrying the 15-year-old, her 12-year-old brother, 6-year-old sister, and 35-year-old mother.

The teenage girl was ejected from the car. She died Wednesday morning, police spokesperson Jose Garcia said.

Her two siblings are declared in stable condition, while their mother suffered neck and back injuries.

According to reports, there was a felony warrant for Cuevas’ arrest even before the violation and the accident.
