PERSONAL INJURY LAW: Texting Drivers in California May Face Higher Fines
August 17, 2011
Sacramento– The amount of fines for distracted driving in California is expected to go up if Governor Jerry Brown signs the proposed bill.
According to news repots, the California Senate has approved the bill that aims to increase the basic fine for motorists who use their cell phone while driving.
Currently the base fine for distracted drivers is $20 but if Gov. Brown affirms the bill, it would increase to $50, and repeat violators would be fined $100 or up to $528.
Reports say the bill intends to address the growing problem of distracted driving-related car accidents in California.
