TiVo Files Patent Infringement Case Against AT&T, Verizon
August 27, 2009
TiVo Inc., the company which pioneered the digital video recorder, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against communication giants AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc.
In its court-affidavit filed on Wednesday, TiVo said the two communication companies have breached its patented technology which allows users to rewind and pause live TV programs.
The lawsuit, filed before the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Texas, is seeking economic damages for past infringement.
TiVo also asked the court to order a permanent injunction that will prevent the two companies from breaching its patented technology.
In a conference with analysts and reporters, TiVo CEO Tom Rogers said there are some operators that violate their intellectual rights.
AT&T and Verizon declined to give comments.
