Dog Bite Incident: Two-year-old boy dead after being attacked by pit bulls

July 22, 2010

Concord – Five pit bulls were seized by animal control authorities after three of them attacked and left a two-year-old boy dead Thursday morning.

According to reports, the child was inside the family’s home near 1700 block of Trailcreek Court and went into their garage where the dogs were kept at around 8:30 p.m.

His grandmother, uncle, and four-year-old brother who were also at home when the attack happened, were left uninjured. The boy was severely injured and rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead.

There are no reasons given yet as to why they keep five pit bulls at home. Their neighbors had no idea either that the family owns dogs.

The Contra Costa County Animal Services department is assisting with the investigation but authorities said it is too soon to know whether charges will be filed.

Recently, a series of pit bull attacks have been happening. This renewed pleas on putting restrictions on owning the breed, which was mainly used for fighting.

The law requires pit bulls to be leashed and muzzled when not around the owner's property. Owners are also obliged to put a warning sign on their property and notify authorities if their pet injures or threatens a person or animal.
