EMPLOYMENT LAW: USC Director Denies Allegations of Short-Staffing
October 11, 2011
Los Angeles - Matt Mcelaith, USC’s University Hospital director for human resources has stated that the hospital is still focused on providing excellent patient care despite the on-going protests of the USC hospital workers at Lincoln Heights in Los Angeles California, 6 a.m. on Wednesday.
Workers have reasoned out that the strikes were done to address the long-due short-staffing problems that the said institution was facing.
According to Mcelaith, USC was recognized for years and owed this to the incomparable service provided to its patients. He added that this record would not be broken even if the strike ensues which was originally scheduled to end at 6 in the afternoon.
More than a hundred protesters tried to voice out their complaint concerning negotiations which lasted more than a year but up till now were not been addressed. Consequently there was according to the protesters, an inadequate number of hospital staffs that might affect the ranking of USC as the leading hospital for patient care.
Under the employment law, hospital staffs and employees who joined the protests are protected against demotion or dismissal by the USC administration.
