USDA Denies plans to close Beef Packers Inc.

December 9, 2009

Washington - The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has denied the other day that they did not plan to force Beef Packers Inc to close but the manufacturer had not supplied schools with food since July. They would ensure that Beef Packers Inc. would resolve their product defect problem.

A second recall of the ground beef were made because of Salmonella and nearly 22,000 lbs. of meat products were pulled from the market. The meat processor was defective and caused the problem. USDA wanted the company inspected thoroughly.

In August, Beef Packers Inc had already recalled 800,000 lbs of ground beef. The company formerly provided supplies to the National School Lunch Program. It also previously bought 450,000 lbs of the ground beef for the schools. Luckily, the meats sent to schools were found negative for Salmonella.
